FAQ
I WANT TO TRY, WHERE DO I BEGIN?
You begin by shooting me (Raechelle) an email, text or a call. I prefer to have a conversation about where you’re currently at with regards to strength training and exercise. From there I’ll either recommend our INTRO Series for beginners (a solid intro to the gym + strength training) or if you have experience, I will offer you a free trial to jump into a class to see what you think. At that first class we can chat more in person and make a plan to move forward. One on one personal training is also an option if injuries or physical limitations make the group dynamic a poor fit for your needs or goals. If you are determined on reaching a specific goal (training for an event, athlete, personal desires) then personal training would be the best option.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A CLASS AT FORTITUDE FITNESS?
You can expect to be greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. There will be an experienced coach ready to walk you through your first class. We will always meet you where you’re at and accommodate your experience level as best we can. We are primarily strength focused but we offer a great variety of classes that complement each other to get you stronger, fitter + healthier both mentally and physically.
IS FORTITUDE FITNESS FOR EVERYONE?
This is a tricky question. I believe that strength training is for everyone, but group fitness might not be. When I program, I program for a general population of people. My goal is to deliver a solid program to our clients that is designed to take the average person to a higher level of physical and mental fitness. This can’t accommodate every individual so it will be up to you to decide what your health/fitness intention is.
WHAT IF FORTITUDE FITNESS IS NOT FOR ME?
You HAVE to enjoy the process so if my style of training, the gym setting or whatever reason makes it not for you, I will do my best to recommend another trainer or facility that might be a good fit. You won’t hurt my feelings, so don’t worry.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING OR WEAR TO MY FIRST CLASS OR THE INTRO SERIES?
You should always wear comfortable athletic wear, a pair of indoor, clean sneakers and bring a full water bottle. Showing up with a smile and positive attitude always helps too ;)
WHAT IS THE PROGRAMMING/WORKOUTS LIKE?

I do the programming for the strength and conditioning classes. Because many of our clientele attend classes consistently 4-5 days per week, I program accordingly. Monday - Thursday morning and M-W evening classes follow a structured plan based on the current goal of the training cycle. Our focus is always to improve our strength, but to also be improving our cardiovascular systems alongside it. We train functionally, which means that I put a priority on the movements and training that makes you stronger inside the gym, but also OUTSIDE of the gym too! Training that allows you to have an active hobby, enjoy life, move better, try new things or keep up with active friends or family. Bike and Build classes are a spin off of the S + C classes, but with the added element of a good dose of cardio on the bike. This is a great option for someone who can only make it to 1-2 classes per week and wants the most bang for their buck, it’s also a great beginner option! Total Body Blast Classes tend to be a little bit higher intensity following more of a bootcamp style. Meg’s cycling classes are more traditional spin style (programmed to music) then followed up with some pilates core work. I’ve added in working with teens through an Athletic Development class and will add more teen options in this summer. I would describe my Strength and Conditioning classes as “CrossFit- ish”. I want to help create well rounded people that consider themselves athletes because they train for health, strength, fun + life! I add the “ish” because I have designed my own style and philosophy over the past 9 years through the work I’ve done with 100’s of clients- t just aligns the closest with CrossFit (with less intensity and competitiveness).
WILL I FIT IN, OR STAND OUT IN A CLASS AT FORTITUDE?

There is not a “type of person” that goes to Fortitude other than the type of person that is seeking to improve! There are men, women, young, old and everyone in between in every class. You will not walk in and say “I don’t fit in here”. You may feel like a novice in comparison to what you see people doing, but one should never compare their day 1 to someone else’s day 525. We all start somewhere.
I’M NERVOUS AND SCARED, HOW DO I GET OVER THAT?

Everyone is nervous and scared of the unknown or to start something new in a new environment. YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT my friend. The first class will be intimidating, it is for everyone. BUT, the more you come the more comfortable you will get with yourself, your surroundings, your coaches and the equipment/movements. Make a commitment and follow through.
P.S. Nobody is watching or criticizing you, they are trying to get through their own workout :) People will be more likely to cheer you on more than anything because they want to see you succeed, like others did for them.
MY SCHEDULE IS CRAZY, HOW CAN I MAKE IT WORK?

If you can get it done in the morning, MAKE IT HAPPEN. There are endless reasons/excuses that pop up during the course of a day and life is crazy busy so if you can make yourself consistent in the mornings, it will change your life! If this just isn’t a possibility for you then just get realistic about when you can attend. Try to hit two classes per week. If it becomes important to you and becomes a priority I bet you’ll find the time and means to make it happen more frequently. A membership or attendance pack offers you flexibility to attend whatever classes work for your schedule.
SHOULD I GET AN ATTENDANCE PACK OR A MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP?

If you’re not sure you can make it to 3 or more classes per week, then it’s better to get an attendance pack. That way you prepay for classes and use them as you go. Attendance packs do expire after one year though. If you’re hitting 3 or more classes a week then you will definitely want to get signed up for a membership!
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT FORTITUDE- WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT THAN OTHER GYMS?

I’ve worked very hard over the past 7 years to create an environment where people can thrive! Group fitness is my passion because it’s so darn effective + fun! You will find yourself among a friendly group, with accountability, support + you can enter a place to work on YOU surrounded by like-minded people wanting the same thing! You don’t have to think about your programming, your workout, what do to that day etc. I will take care of all that for you! You will be challenged every time you come. You will gain mental and physical strength with each workout.
Another plus is, you won’t have to wait your turn for equipment or be looking up YouTube videos on how to do things properly. You will have a COACH. A coach is someone who is there to help you and teach you. You aren’t expected to know how to do everything or what everything is called right out of the gate. You’re hiring someone to help you through this process! Someone who is going to demand more from you in order to change you. Someone to push you harder, but also to offer words of encouragement. Someone you can ask questions and get feedback. SUPPORT! When we have someone in our corner, we do better.
HOW DOES OPEN GYM WORK?

The gym is armed with a security system, but membership clients can gain access to the gym outside of scheduled class times or with me during scheduled Open Gym. This option is only for the experienced lifter/exerciser that is confident in their abilities-there will be no coaching at open gym. You do have access to the whiteboard programming so you can use the Fortitude workouts or follow your own.
DO YOU OFFER SENIOR FITNESS, LOW IMPACT OR STRETCHING CLASSES?

Unfortunately we do not offer those classes at this time. We could connect you with a personal trainer if you want to work on it 1:1. Otherwise I would recommend reaching out to your local YMCA, your town/recreation director or Adult Ed for those types of offerings.
